Voter Services

M
embers of the League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson (LWVGT) provide a variety of public services in Pima County, Arizona, to promote citizen participation in government. Voter Services activities are primarily focused on assisting voter registration, providing information about voting and elections, and increasing voter turnout. LWVGT has a strict nonpartisan policy which extends to all of our services and materials. Click Voter Services Organizational Chart to see Voter Services activities and positions.

As a League member, you will be able to sign up to volunteer with Voter Services programs and activities. Volunteers are provided materials, training and support, and find it to be a fun and rewarding experience.

Voter Registration

Voter Registration
is a year-round effort to promote and assist voter registration, provide information about the voting process, and increase voter turnout. LWVGT is especially interested in reaching new voters and those who might have difficulty registering to vote or updating their registration.

Volunteers receive all needed materials, training, and support from experienced members. As a trained member of the Voter Registration Team, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Register and provide information to voters at community sites and events
  • Identify and work with community partners
  • Serve as a voter registration trainer for League members or community organizations
  • Assist with updates to the League's educational materials and website content
  • Distribute voter registration materials to community partners in Pima County
For more information, email voterregistration@lwvtucson.com.

Candidate and Issue Forums

Prior to local and statewide elections, LWVGT sponsors public forums to inform voters, often in conjunction with other nonpartisan community organizations. The League is considered a leader in this important election function based on our extensive experience in conducting forums and our reputation for being fair and objective.

Two types of programs are offered, and they may be in-person community events or virtual:
  • Candidate Forums for specific elected positions, where the candidates share their views and experience on relevant topics; and
  • Issue Forums, where ballot propositions or referendums are explained and discussed.

There are many roles for League members who would like to assist with forums, from Timekeeper to Moderator. Members receive all needed training and support from experienced members.

Ready. Set. Vote!

Ready. Set. Vote! (RSV) is a LWVGT project that aims to encourage registered voters to cast their vote. It is active in the weeks before elections. Past voter turnout activities, which were previously called Get Out The Vote, have included phone banking, postcard writing, distribution of information packets, and targeted media campaigns, especially where voter turnout has historically been low. All League members are invited to participate, and those who sign up will be notified when planning begins. Training is provided.

Another part of the League's RSV efforts is the Ready. Set. Vote! website, which is described below.

Online Tools to Inform Voters

A key function of the League of Women Voters is to be a source of reliable information about voting and upcoming elections. LWVGT provides this information to the public in a variety of ways, including two voting-specific websites. League volunteers maintain these websites, including researching and contributing content.

Ready. Set. Vote! is the LWVGT user-friendly website that provides useful information about voter registration, voting and elections in Pima County. Check out Ready. Set. Vote!

Vote 411 is a national League of Women Voters website that state and local Leagues can contribute election information to. Voters can find nonpartisan information about the candidates and ballot initiatives that they will be voting on in upcoming elections. Vote 411 is active before primary and general elections, and is available in English and Spanish. Check out Vote 411.
