This Zoom webinar, our fifth Voter Education Program of the 2021-22 year, will focus on the Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation movement in the United States. Our three expert panelists, all nationally prominent in TRHT initiatives and organizations, will discuss the critical importance of this movement in our society, its goals and origins, and the mechanisms through which it is helping communities heal and change. This program will be open to LWVGT members and the public, both in Arizona and nationwide. Our topics and panelists include:

Truth: What is the History of TRHT? - José Rico, Executive Director for Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Greater Chicago

Born in Mexico, José Rico immigrated as a child to the United States, where his father was a railroad worker and his mother was a homemaker. He earned bachelor’s and master's degrees at Northeastern Illinois University in Community Organizing and Development, and a second master's degree in Educational Leadership and K-12 Administration at National Louis University. He has worked for social justice nonprofits in Chicago and at the University of Illinois, has served as a high school principal, and was appointed by President Obama to be Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
