The Filibuster and Civil Rights: What to do about this Jim Crow Era Relic

Kate Stewart  | Published on 6/23/2021

Right now, politicians all over the country are passing bills designed to make it harder for people to vote—bills that specifically target Black and brown communities.

The For the People Act is an opportunity for Congress to pass historic--and popular--voting rights legislation that would protect our freedom to vote, ensure fair representation in government, and end the dominance of big money in politics. Yet, the filibuster stands in its way and it’s time for that to change.

Tune in at 1pm PST on June 24 during the filiBUSTED Day of Action to learn how the filibuster has been used to block key civil rights legislation throughout history and how we can take action now to ensure that we all have the freedom to vote!

You can expect speakers from Common Cause, the League of Women Voters, State Voices, and even some trivia!
