President's Message
Emily Bridson
As Election Day approaches, I want to thank all of our Board members, committees, and volunteers who continue to defend our democracy. There has never been a more critical time to get involved in whatever way that is meaningful to you.

The LWVGT has two immediate needs: 1) analyzing local issues and, 2) being trained to fulfill public speaking requests. Please let us know if you have an interest in these areas or other volunteer opportunities.

Go to any of the following for more information.

Voter Services Message
From Chair Linda Mccabe

The League of Women Voters was established as the ratification of the19th amendment grew closer. Once the amendment was ratified, leaders of the suffrage movement knew they must move quickly in registering women to vote and providing them with enough knowledge to make informed decisions on the candidates and issues. Ever since, Leagues have developed a variety of ways to meet this mission. It is the heart and soul of what we do as Leagues.19th Amendment

Elections are busy times for local League volunteers. During quieter times, however, we continue to do the work we truly believe in. Throughout the year our volunteers provide information about the League of Women Voters in Greater Tucson in the public libraries. During September and April and May, we register high school students to vote. Our volunteers also register voters and provide information at the many senior residences throughout our community.

Two groups in our League, The Voter Education Committee and the Speaker’s Bureau, provide forums and talks on relevant topics to groups in our area.

Candidate forums have been held in Bisbee, Marana, and Tucson. There are more to come in August and September.

One of our members' favorite voter registration activities are the Naturalization Ceremonies we attend twice a month at the courthouse. In collaboration with the Pima County Recorder’s Office, we register our newest citizens to vote. The joy and pride of the new citizens is celebrated in the DeConcini U.S. Courthouse with their family and friends.

As a League we are currently working on the 2024 elections. All of our committees are working together and coordinating the activities that will be in motion from August through November 5th. Our work would not happen without all the volunteer hours going in to Ready.Set.Vote! 2024. In addition, VOTE411 will be a platform providing information on candidates and propositions. We also have plans for mass texting and postcard writing.

This cannot happen without your talents and time. Please join us as we post volunteer activities that need your help. We cannot do the work we have planned without you. See upcoming Voter Services events by checking out the LWVGT Calendar.

Thank you for the work you have done and the work you will be doing.

Voter Services Committee
Who we are and what we do

Voter Services, chaired by Linda Mccabe, oversees several LWVGT programs and activities, most of which are aimed at promoting voting and providing nonpartisan information to voters about voting and elections. These activities are planned and conducted by subcommittees.
You can join us! Voter Services Committee

The Ready Set Vote 2024 Committee (RSV2024) implements the LWVGT Get-Out-The-Vote campaign. This committee reports to Voter Services.

The RSV2024 Committee has been meeting since last fall. We have a dedicated group of talented LWVGT members which includes a community organizer, a media expert, a webmaster, a writer and a community activist. Together we have designed a powerful campaign.

The Ready.Set.Vote! website is one of several tools we’re using to get out the vote. Ready.Set.Vote!
Voter Services has been busy!

• We are inviting Tucson agencies and organizations to become community partners in the Ready Set Vote effort.  Partners will receive five newsletters prior to the November 2024 election that will help demystify the ballot, provide reminders of registration deadlines, locations for voting centers, and ballot drop-off sites.

• We are preparing radio and streaming ads that focus on the Latino community, which makes up about 40% of the population of Pima County. Ad content will focus on the importance of voting for family and friends.

• We’ll walk low-turnout precincts to hang non-partisan (of course) voter information on doors and gates.

• We’ll organize Ballot Chats with churches and neighborhoods to review the ballot, especially this year since there are at least 14 ballot measures. This is not advocacy but anticipatory guidance.

• We are training LWVGT members on how to write OpEds or a Letter to the Editor for the AZDaily Star.  Zoom link for the 8/5/2024 workshop is HERE

LWVAZ Bootcamps are coming in
August, September, and October

We have organized a series of workshops on Zoom to provide all League members with a better understanding of the work at the State and National levels. As the National, State, and Local Leagues continue the transformation journey started in 2019, 2024 and 2025 will be pivotal years for this transformation and transition.

In these challenging times, it is crucial to strengthen our leagues as we respond to unprecedented attacks on our democracy and fight for fair and free elections. Join us as we grow and learn together about the League’s strategies, processes, and protocols to ensure our success in advancing the League's mission of empowering voters and defending democracy.

Bootcamps take place on Zoom and registration is required. To stay informed and connected, keep a close eye on LWVGT Calendar of Events. You can find the Calendar link on the LWVGT HOME PAGE.
