Subject: Voter Services Update
From: Linda Maccabe

Hi ~~first_name~~,

Here are a few things I wanted to share with all the membership. For any League events mentioned, log in to the League website as a member and then go to the calendar and click on the date of the event to register.

Today, Monday, August 26th, is the Proposition Bootcamp where LWVAZ will present the propositions that will appear on our ballot. Please tune in if you can. As a League we are receiving requests to present the propositions in our community. We need our members to sign up to help with the presentations. Please contact Teresa Jenkins at programs@lwvtucson.com

September 5th from 4:00-5:30 there will be a Zoom Voter Registration Training with the Pima County Recorder’s staff. That Thursday, Stephanie Motzkin, will go over how to register voters and answer your questions. We won’t have another one before the October 7th registration deadline. Sign up on our calendar.

There have been questions about voter registration and the Supreme Court ruling. Because of the ruling people who have never registered can register to vote on the state form only if they have an AZ Drivers License or AZ ID. They can then vote a “full ballot”.  If they do not have one of these they will be registered on a National Voter Registration form and can only vote for federal candidates; president, senator and representative. If they register on the national form, and then get an AZ id they can register with their new AZ id and vote a full ballot by Oct 7th. If you have been registered and have received full ballots in the past this law does not affect you. I spoke with Gabriella Cazares-Kelly yesterday. She will keep us informed of any changes in the laws through October 7th. I will share the information as I receive it.

To assist people to get AZ ID’s, we are partnering with a non-profit, non-partisan organization called VoteRiders. Their only mission is to help people get id’s.  They pay for the id’s and will drive people to the DVM if needed. They need volunteers to help people get these id’s. Please go to VoteRiders.org/volunteer for information on how to help.

Thank you. Please call with questions.
