Dear Advocacy Committee Members,

Thank you to everyone who attended the advocacy committee meeting. Special thanks to Mary Price for her enlightening presentation on indexing local, state, and national league positions. Your expertise has greatly benefited our committee's understanding of leveraging league positions for advocacy.

During the meeting, we discussed the Legislative Lobby Day and the potential for the league to fully subsidize the cost of bus transportation for members attending the event at the state capital. I strongly encourage your participation in this significant gathering of league members and state legislators. Please register on the state website using your local login credentials and sign up for the bus on our local website.

We are also exploring the possibility of organizing another bus trip, contingent on member interest, to visit Indian Oasis Intermediate Elementary School in Sells, AZ, as part of our ongoing relationship-building efforts with the indigenous community. Please indicate your interest in attending this event.

Our Gun Violence Prevention Subcommittee, led by Chair Kathy Aros, has been collaborating with the Issues and Eggs planning committee. We appreciate their dedication to enhancing the League's annual fundraiser. Their contributions have been pivotal to the success of this year's event. They meet on Mondays, and I encourage anyone interested in contributing to this vital cause to join their efforts.

We also discussed reviving the local units. Special thanks to the Eastside unit and Chair Phylis Carnahan for their input. It was agreed that local units should be co-chaired to distribute responsibilities. Local units will enable the league to better monitor and address issues within the Southern Arizona community. They provide a platform for members to connect and collaborate on matters directly impacting their locales. Consequently, I am seeking leaders to chair local units. If you are interested, please reach out to me. Historically, our league had five local units, and I will be working with Membership Chair Kate Stewart to organize our members by location and identify potential new units.

We will also be drafting press releases on Proposition 414 and the RTA. While we have decided not to take a position for or against these measures, we aim to educate the community with reliable information ahead of the upcoming vote. Ballots will be mailed next week. An educational forum on Proposition 414 is scheduled for tomorrow at 3 PM at Murphy Library. I encourage your attendance. Kate and other members will be present to gather information for our press release in collaboration with the Communications Committee.

The State League is currently monitoring bills at the state level and seeking volunteers to join task forces dedicated to tracking legislation related to our priorities. I urge members to join and advocate for causes such as education and voter rights. Thank you to all who respond to our calls to action regarding these bills.

Additionally, there is a march happening in Phoenix on February 17 to advocate for preschool education funding. This event has been shared with members in Maricopa County.

Lastly, we welcomed two new members who attended the advocacy meeting tonight. One member was inspired to join during the meeting, motivated by our ongoing efforts. Membership Chair Kate Stewart will follow up with them. It was fulfilling to witness their enthusiasm and commitment to advancing our mission. It was an excellent meeting, and I look forward to seeing you at future events.

All the best,
Lovely Ganthier
