HomeAction Issues: Observe Government Meetings

Observer Corps

The Observer Corps is a long-standing tradition in the League of Women Voters; it is a viable reminder that one of our core values is “transparency in government.”

League Observers attend regular meetings (in person or online) of local public governing bodies to be aware of new and continuing topics discussed and acted on; their reports are shared with League members.

A primary objective of the Observer Corps is to ensure governmental meetings are conducted in compliance with Arizona’s Open Meetings Law. An additional purpose is taking notice of the discussions and decisions that may have an impact on the local League’s positions.

The knowledge League Observers gain during their presence at government meetings can inform the League’s position stances and influence our communication efforts with voters. By our presence at government meetings, we also demonstrate the rights of all citizens to be informed and active participants in government.
