President
Happy 250th Anniversary, United States of America!

With the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, our nation began a bold experiment in self-governance—one in which the right to vote plays a central role. Throughout our history, progress toward ensuring that all citizens have access to the ballot has not always been smooth. There have been advances, setbacks, and renewed efforts to expand and protect voting rights for every generation.

For more than 100 years, the League of Women Voters has been dedicated to strengthening our democracy through four essential activities: registering voters, providing factual and nonpartisan voter information, encouraging voter participation, and advocating for voting rights.

This work is carried out at the grassroots level by volunteers who are committed to the ideals of democracy, good government, and the Constitution. Together, we work to expand access to the ballot box, support early voting and online voter registration, and ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to make their voice heard.

As we celebrate 250 years of American democracy, thank you to each of you who contributes your time, energy, and dedication to our League. Your efforts help us fulfill our mission of Empowering Voters and Defending Democracy.
PAY THE RENT 2026–2027

Our annual Pay the Rent fundraiser begins on July 1. Thank you to everyone who contributed last year. We came very close to reaching our goal, and with your help we hope to achieve our $10,000 goal this year.

One special way to participate is to sponsor the day your committee meets. For example, members of the LWVSAZ Board of Directors purchase their monthly Board meeting day for $30.00, providing $300 annually in support of League operations.

Sponsoring a day is a meaningful way to honor or remember a family member, friend, or colleague while helping sustain the important work of our League. Contributions support the operational expenses that allow us to continue Empowering Voters and Defending Democracy throughout Southern Arizona.

Donors will be recognized in our weekly newsletter unless they prefer to remain anonymous.

Thank you for your continued support of the League and its mission.

Election Protection Training
Every eligible voter deserves to have their vote counted.

That’s why every election year, Election Protection recruits, trains, and deploys thousands of volunteers across the nation. These trained, nonpartisan volunteers serve as voters’ first line of defense against confusing voting rules, outdated infrastructure, rampant misinformation, and needless obstacles to the ballot box.

You can find more information and sign up for training HERE.

Community Violence Prevention Committee
Guns to Gardens Information Event
June 7, 2026
Peace
The Community Violence Prevention Committee (CVP), with other community members, have been planning a voluntary firearm surrender. The first phase of this plan was a community education presentation about Guns to Gardens on June 7.  Using a combination of slides and videos, Rev. Jenn Soule-Hill of the Southside Presbyterian Church gave an overview of the Guns to Gardens movement.  The audience of approximately 30 people included gun violence survivors, LD18 Senator Priya Sundareshan and League members.

The next phase of our planning is a firearm surrender at St Philips in the Hills Episcopal Church on October 17. Plans are still in progress for a blacksmithing demonstration to transform the gun parts into garden tools.  Stay tuned for more information.

If you have questions about this event, contact Meg Pradelt mpradelt@icloud.com.
