Observer Corp Report: Chancellor Search, Publication of Proposed Budget

Agenda Items Approved:

  • The Interim Chancellor recommends the Governing Board: 1) approve publication, in accordance with statutory requirements, of the Fiscal Year 2025 budget in the Arizona Daily Star on May 28, 2024 and June 4, 2024; and 2) conduct a public hearing and a special Board meeting on June 12, 2024 for the purpose of adopting the budget and setting property tax rates and levies.
    Motion by Maria D Garcia, second by Luis L Gonzales.

  • The Interim Chancellor recommends the Governing Board authorize the Interim Chancellor or designee to execute an intergovernmental agreement with the State of Arizona for the Arizona Community College Workforce Scholarship Program. The total value of the agreement, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act pass-through the State of Arizona, is $900,000 for the performance period ending September 30, 2024.
    Motion by Wade McLean, second by Maria D Garcia.

Other Meeting Highlights:

  • Land Acknowledgment is part of the agenda of each meeting and read aloud. 
  • Audit Results for Fiscal Year 2023, Presentation by the Arizona Auditor General
    Recommendation to follow District guidelines for purchases with p-cards by employees. Plans are in place to correct issues no later than December 31, 2024.  
  • Chancellor's Search Update (going well):

May 2-7, 2024 Target dates for review of candidates by the Search Committee.
May 9, 2024 Search Committee meets to select candidates to interview.
May 28 & 29, 2024 Search Committee interviews candidates virtually.
May 28, 2024 Governing Board Executive Session to prep for finalist interviews.
June 10-14, 2024 Target dates for on-site interviews. Dates will be confirmed after the May 28 & 29 interviews.
