Greater Tucson League,
As we continue to work through election results, one opportunity is very clear - the urgency for President Biden to publish the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). We are hopeful you will contact President Biden to let your wishes be known. This will be a message not from the League, but each of you. It could sound like this:
With election results in, the alarm has sounded for protecting women's rights. I am urging you to publish the Equal Rights Amendment that has already been ratified. As you may know Article II powers provide a direct route to achieving this. You must act, and do so swiftly. If not for your spouse, your sister, or your mother then surely for the majority that populates the United States you are sworn to serve. The majority that faithfully put you into office.
Failing to publish the ERA threatens to cancel more than a century's worth of progress, of justice. The Supreme Court has made it painfully clear that the 14th Amendment does not extend to bodily autonomy. Combined with the actions of Project 2025, an unpublished ERA furthers inequality, injustice, and inaccessibility to a life of freedom that America proudly promises.
Your legacy is yours to determine. Should you be remembered as a complicit politician who left a ratified amendment dead in a drawer when it instead could have been published to protect human rights? Your legacy, but far more importantly, our lives are on the line and in your hands. It is time to act.
You must publish the ERA now.
Please share with friends and family to amplify this message.
Thank you,
Emily Bridson
