Observer Corps Report: Pima County Board of Supervisors

ATF Proposed Rule Supported
Plan to Replace Supervisor Bronson Determined


Meeting date: November 22, 2023
Agenda Items Approved:

• Support of proposed ATF rule 2022-R17
   o Requires background checks of all private firearms sales.
   o 2 page proclamation submitted by Supervisor Scott :

   o Passed 3 -2 Supervisors Bronson and Christy voted no

• Marana Food Bank Funding
   o Request for $100,000 for the next 6 months funding for Marana Food Bank
   o Marana Food Bank used to be an arm of the Tucson Food Bank. Now working in
collaboration with Sahuarita Food Bank.
   o This will give them support while they seek other forms of funding.
   o Passed unanimously.

Other Meeting Highlights:

• Resignation and replacement of Supervisor Sharon Bronson
   o Unanimous acceptance of resignation of Supervisor Bronson
   o The county will accept applications from Nov 22 to Dec 1st. Applicants must be a
registered democrat and live in district 3. They need to submit a letter of interest,
resume, and financial statement. There will be a background check and they will need
to complete a conflict-of-interest disclosure.
   o Board had a lively discussion prior to the decision and decided not to include a list of
questions with application process.
   o Decision of how to proceed with selection process will occur at the Dec 5th board
meeting. The Board may request the League of Women Voters to conduct a candidate
forum. Candidate selection will happen at the Dec 19th board meeting.

• Recognition of Supervisor Sharon Bronson
   o Served for the last 27 years, attended 630 meetings, and was the first female chair.
A short thank you video was shared from the town of Ajo. 11 individuals shared
recognition and thank you to Sharon Bronson during the call to the public - from Amado,
Flowing Wells, Marana, and others.
